NEW CHOICES FOR LIFE:
Work & Life Skills Program

MISSION:
The goal of the New Choices Program is to help eligible individuals get the educational, vocational, and life coping skills necessary to obtain wage-adequate employment.

SERVICES:
The New Choices for Life work skills program is designed to give vocational guidance for persons who qualify for services. Job training, life skills classes, support groups, and placement assistance are features of this program.

New Choices for Life offers the following services

• goal setting
• career & job counseling
• job training
• job placement
• mediation skills training
• computer training
• healthy relationships exploration
• personal health counseling
• personal financial management

New Choices offers one-on-one counselling and classes.

Staff uses a "needs" assessments to determine clients' strength and areas where they need help. Follow up contact with the client helps them stay on track with their career plans.

• assertiveness
• personal health
• nutrition
• budgeting
• child management
• self-advocacy
• legal rights
• crisis-coping skills
• community resources

Other services included referral services to other agencies, drug and alcohol assessment, personal counseling, and support groups.

The program, under the name New Choices for Life, has expanded to include the topics listed in the Services section above.
